32 Days Post Op

Wow, it has been a rough two days.  I went to see my endocrinologist yesterday.  I sat in the waiting room for almost TWO HOURS before she saw me.  I love my endo, but the only reason I stayed was because it was a holiday so I didn't have to take off from work, and I needed a medicine changed.  My blood sugars have really fallen especially with me taking glimepiride (Amaryl).  It specifically works to lower your blood sugar.  I was wanting her to lower the dose.  I finally got back to see her, and yes, I told her this was unacceptable.  It was not the first time it happened.  I completely understand that with diabetes, it cannot be a cattle drive, get them in and out.  However, she should not be scheduling more than she can handle.  It is inconsiderate.  Regardless, I did see her.  She wants me off of the glimepiride and on a small dose of metformin.  I will need to run this by my surgeon.  All of my labs looked great, with the exception of my TSH (a thyroid test indicator).  It had risen from a 2.3 to a 4.7.  She doesn't want to jump the gun yet.  She wants to cautiously watch things considering my family history of hypothyroidism.  My mom, her sisters, and my sister all have thyroid disease.  She says it may be inevitable, but we will retest in April.  If the numbers are still elevated, she will consider medication then. If before then I feel fatigue and generally poor, I need to let her know so she can test sooner.

I am still needing to get my groove at work.  I need to work out when to take my vitamins, eat, drink, test my blood sugar, teach, grade papers, write lesson plans, go to meetings, etc.  This is a challenge, but I will work it out eventually.

I am now looking for a car.  Yesterday, coming back from the endo, the check engine light came on.  Today, I noticed that the speedometer and the odometer are not working, which is really bad since my gas gauge is not working, and I was depending on the trip meter to tell me when to fill up.  I think I am done.  I will have to work out the logistics of a car payment.  It has been wonderful not having one since 2006.

For some good news, I have now passed the 50 pound mark.  As of this morning, I have lost 51 pounds pre and post surgery.  It really is amazing to think about it.   I have NEVER lost this much weight before, EVER!  I am super excited!
